As you all know we adopted a few families, who had fallen on
hard times, from Greer Relief by devoting our time and resources so
that they may have a brighter Christmas.
What you may not know is that Greer Relief was able to help
a record number of people this Christmas... OVER 600...
because of your efforts!
The Adopt-A-Family program had over 100 volunteers along
with 78 sponsors who adopted 164 families!
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who helped with
this misison project!!
Thanks,

Presbyterian Women
Circle News
|
|
The Presbyterian
Women Morning Bible Study Circle hosted by its leader, Ruthie Morrow,
will meet Thursday, February 9 at 10:00 a.m. in the Multi purpose
Room. Lesson Four, "Greatly Honored Are Those
Who Are Famished and Parched for Justice!", of our study, "Confessing
the Beatitudes," will be taught by Eva Price,
after which we will have lunch at the Dragon's Den at the far end of the
BiLo shopping center at the junction of Hudson Road and Old Spartanburg
Road. We have been having great attendance and always enjoy new
people coming. You can come to both Bible Study and lunch, Bible
Study alone, or meet us for lunch alone. If you don't come because
you are afraid you will be asked to lead a lesson, don't worry, all the
lessons for this year have been taken!!! We are so thankful for the
new women who have joined us. We learn so much from each other so the
more women who come the more we can learn!
The Evening Circle will meet at
6:30 p.m., also in the multipurpose room, hosted by Shelby Wood,
Evening Circle Leader. There will be a light supper
followed by Lesson Four taught by Ann Paschal. Again, all women
members and friends of and visitors to the church are warmly invited to
either Circle meeting.
Our mission/service project for
this month will be to support the Youth Souper Sunday mission. You may
bring a can of soup to place in the Narthex as directed, if you wish.
Thank you.

Learning from
Peter's Mistakes
|
|
In
Mark 9:2-10, Jesus takes three disciples up a mountain, where his clothes
become dazzling white and Moses and Elijah speak with him. Terrified, Peter
starts babbling. He offers to construct three "dwellings" -
presumably, worship structures. But Peter makes two common mistakes.
First,
he fails to treat Jesus as the unique object of worship. Just as Peter
would have worshiped Moses and Elijah alongside Jesus, we sometimes act as
though money, work, another person or even church and Scripture are coequal
with Christ. Obviously, family and friends are important, but Jesus is the
only Son of God. The church and the Bible, though worthy of devotion, are
only vehicles that bring us to Christ.
Second, Peter would have stayed
on that mountain indefinitely. Spiritual highs are tempting that way. We
resist going back "down" to daily life. Ecstatic glimpses of
Jesus' glory are one way God strengthens us to continue serving in Christ's
name.
