A Message from Jeff Gilstrap
After
16 years of service, Kristina Cooper, the Director of our Child
Development Center, has decided to resign to stay home to care for her
family. We wish her the best! Please take the time to thank her for
sharing her gifts with us.
With
this news, the CDC Board began investigating a replacement for Kristina.
After much conversation, several meetings and discerning God's will, the
CDC Board presented to the Session an option that met both the needs of
the CDC and our Christian Education program at St. Andrews. The CDC
Board recommended eliminating the CDC Director's position and calling a
Director of Christian Formation (DCF) and revising the job description of
the DCF to include the responsibilities of the CDC Director's position.
This would provide leadership to our CDC and Christian Education programs
including children and adults and would better integrate the CDC program
into the mission and ministry of St. Andrews.
Additionally,
the CDC agreed to fund 2/3 of the financial package and the Session
agreed to fund the balance of $15,000 annually. The prorated impact on
the budget for 2008 will be $9,400.00 which will be taken from the
Minister's line item budget of $45,000, since we will not likely have a
Minister in place this year. The Session unanimously accepted the
recommendation.
Subsequently,
the Child Development Center Board in conjunction with the Session's
approval extended a call to Tami Wall to fill this position. Tami
accepted the call and she will begin her ministry with St. Andrews on
Monday, May 19th.
Tami
bring 26 years of experience in Christian Education and daycare programs.
All of those years were associated with John Knox Presbyterian and
Trinity Presbyterian so she has a strong connection with the area. I
encourage you all to extend a warm welcome of love and God's grace to
Tami, her husband, Tom, and her two children, Casey and Cody. I am
convinced God is in the equation and will bless us beyond belief through
her gifts.
Amy
will continue with her responsibilities under the guidance and leadership
of Tami. Their partnership will only strengthen the work Amy has begun.
The
Session decided in April to begin the formation of a Pastor Nominating
Committee in September. The PNC will be the team that will coordinate the
search for the next Pastor. The process of finding a new Pastor is not a
quick process and could take 12-18 months. I have agreed to continue in
my role until a new Pastor is called.
May
God continue to grace your life. There are some wonderful things
happening at the Saint and the Holy Spirit is out of control. Grab the
Spirit and hang on for a peace filled journey.
Take
risk,
Jeff

Welcome!
Tami Wall
Director of Christian Formation
Tami
Wall is a native of Greenville. She has served in the ministry of God's
church for 26 years. Over the years her positions have included directing
programs for Christian education and music for children, youth, adults,
and senior adults. She worked over four years as the music teacher
for John Knox Kindergarten that just celebrated its 50th year. As the
Director of Christian Education at John Knox Presbyterian Church for five
years, her duties included being a liaison between the school program and
the church.
Having
such a vast array of work experience as well as attending several
training conferences each year has afforded her many opportunities to
lead workshops and training events - several of our members at St.
Andrews have met Tami through these training events.
Tami's
greatest joy comes from serving God through the ministry of His church.
She enjoys using her creativity to design programs, curriculums, and
events that bring God's people of all ages together for scriptural and
spiritual growth, service and mission opportunities, as well as times for
fun and fellowship with each other. She loves getting to know the
people within the church and helping them recognize and explore their own
gifts and talents of which they can use within the church and their community.
Tami
met and married her husband Tom while serving at Trinity Presbyterian
Church. She has a daughter, Casey, who is 25 years old and a graduate of
Presbyterian College. Her son, Cody, 22, will finish his MBA program at
North Greenville University this December.
Tami
is thrilled to have the opportunity at St. Andrews to combine her skills
and her love for both church work and church-based schools into one
position. She is eager to come on board on Monday, May 19th and begin her
duties as Director of Christian Formation for St. Andrews. She hopes to
meet everyone and soon know each member as a new friend!
